On May 15-16, 2017, the final conference of "The Establishment of a Foundation for the Integration of Disabled People into HEIs of Azerbaijan" (ESFIDIP) Tempus project was held at Khazar University. The conference consisted of two sessions. On the first day, only the partners of the project – Khazar University, University of Lodz, University of Macedonia, University of Graz, Lankaran State University, Ganja State University, Sumgayit State University, Azerbaijan State University of Economics, Nakhchivan State University,The Research and Training Center for Labor and Social Problems and members of the Union of Disabled People Organizations participated at the conference. During the conference, partner universities exchanged their experiences about the works they have done and the results they have got within the framework of the project. Later, they discussed the continuity of the project and future cooperation.
The second day of the conference was held in the "Marble" hall of Khazar University. Members of different universities, schools, organisations and students participated in the conference. Professor Hamlet Isaxanli, the founder of Khazar University and Chairman of its Board of Directors and Trustees, started the conference. He greeted the guests and made a speech about the importance of the project. Dimitrios Tsoungas, Ambassador of Greece to Azerbaijan also spoke at the conference. Anar Khalilov, a member of the Ministry of Education of Azerbaijan, spoke about the activities of the Ministry of Education to create opportunities for education of disabled people. Huseyn Humbatov, member of theResearch and Training Center for Labor and Social Problems and Davud Rahimli, head of the Union of Disabled People Organizations also spoke on the activities of their organisation on the topic.
Rima Mammadova, the director of the "The Establishment of a Foundation for the Integration of Disabled People into HEIs of Azerbaijan" " (ESFIDIP) Tempus project, gave detailed information regarding the project to the participants. She mentioned the difficulties they encountered within the implementation period of the project and their success. Members of the University of Lodz and the University of Graz gave detailed information to the participants about the experiences of their universities and taken actions regarding this area in their countries.
Representatives of Ganja State University and Nakhchivan State University spoke about the taken actions in the region and their universities regarding the topic as well. At the end of the event, Nurlana Jafarova and Orkhan Adigozel, students with disabilities from Khazar University and the Azerbaijan State University of Economics, made speeches about their success despite the obstacles they have faced.
We would like to note that, "The Establishment of a Foundation for the Integration of Disabled People into HEIs of Azerbaijan" " (ESFIDIP) Tempus project started in December 2013 and it will end conclude on May 31, 2017. The project is funded within the framework of the European Commission Tempus program and managed by Khazar University.
